Junk removal is one of those jobs where the prep work changes the price. A pile that’s already staged costs less than the same volume scattered across three rooms. Here’s the short list that saves you money and gets the crew out of your driveway faster.
1. Pile it (or at least point at it)
Move everything you want hauled into one room or one section of the garage. Don’t worry about stacking it neatly. Just consolidate. We’ll do the rest.
If you can’t consolidate (estate cleanouts, hoarder scenarios, second-floor heavy items), don’t worry. Tell us upfront. We price it differently and bring the right crew size.
2. Separate “keep” items
The number-one mistake people make: not labeling the few things they want to keep. Tape a piece of paper that says KEEP on anything that’s staying. We won’t guess.
3. Check for hidden items
- Drawers and cabinets. Anyone leave anything important in them? Check before we load.
- Behind/under furniture. Receipts, jewelry, kids’ toys, lost remotes.
- Pockets. Yes, of every piece of clothing going out.
This sounds obsessive. People find checkbooks twice a month.
4. Plan the path
Open the door we’ll use. Move the car out of the driveway if we need to back the truck in. Clear stairs and walkways. If the route goes through a hallway with art on the walls, we’ll work around it, but it’s faster if we don’t have to.
5. Pull anything we can’t take
We can’t take hazardous materials or chemicals. That includes things like motor oil, pool chemicals, propane tanks, and household cleaners. Set them aside so they don’t end up loaded by mistake.
Most Orange, Seminole, and Osceola County waste programs run free drop-off days for these. We can point you to the closest one.
6. Take a before photo
Insurance, taxes (if you’re donating part of it elsewhere), or just bragging rights. Either way, snap a photo before the truck pulls up. Saves a lot of “where did that go?” questions later.
